Artist involved in making Paterno statue discusses emotions as work is removed
On Sunday, Buitrago packed up artwork he had displayed at a gallery show in Reading last week. A second piece of his art was tucked away Sunday, too â the 900-pound statue of Joe Paterno that stood outside Beaver Stadium at State College. Buitrago, of Ephrata, is one of three area artists who created the statue of the longtime Penn State head football coach more than 10 years ago.

Brandon Lamar Seals was an outgoing 22-year-old who loved basketball and singing. He had a knack for impersonating celebrities and always added "I love you" when he said goodbye. On July 13, 2011, Seals, of Lancaster, was found on the 200 block of Stevens Avenue with multiple gunshot wounds. Sandra Johnson is the founder and director of Kon-nectingservices Inc., an organization that advocates for children of incarcerated parents. The Lancaster woman served 12 years in prison and remembers the hardships placed on her son, who was 3-years-old at the time. When Johnson heard that Laura Kaeppeler, the crowned winner of the 2012 Miss America contest, was focusing on children with parents in prison, Johnson knew she had to contact Kaeppeler.

Album Review: The Stray Birds
The Stray Birds, an Americana trio from Lancaster County, Pa., combine old-time and folk styles in their eponymous debut album. Noteworthy is the album’s recent recognition on NPR’s “Top 10 Folk & Americana Bands of the Year,” a list that includes renowned folk artists like The Lumineers and The Carolina Chocolate Drops.

I am a 2013 graduate of Goshen College with a bachelor of arts in English Writing and Women's Studies. I have studied and enjoyed a wide range of writing, from fiction to poetry to features.

I have rooted my love of people and writing most consistently in journalism writing, with internships at The Elkhart Truth and Lancaster Newspapers. I’m passionate about story-telling as advocacy, especially in the convergence of faith, politics, and culture.
